In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), 68% of our health-related research was considered world leading or internationally excellent. Our breadth of expertise in the health and social care field means we have a good understanding of organisational, professional, practitioner and service user needs across the sector.

We work collaboratively on research projects with other institutions and health and social care service providers and the majority of our research is conducted under the following working themes:

• Technology and innovation for health and social care

• Children, young people and families

• Outcomes of health and social care education

• The environment of health and social care delivery

• Traits of resilience in modern living - survivorship, recovery and identity

All staff are engaged in scholarship and research consistent with their field of practice and are committed to providing the evidence base for the advancement of health and social care.

Our world renowned Centre for Public Health influences health service design and delivery, as well as health related policy. The research has been at the forefront of the development of multi-agency strategies to promote and protect public health, turning information and data into meaningful and timely intelligence.

The Research Unit for Financial Inclusion situated within the School of Nursing and Allied Health provides a unique opportunity to consider the impact of finance and debt management on health and social outcomes.

The Centre for Collaborative Innovation in Dementia has been at the forefront of technological advancement in dementia care and has been at the cutting edge of
‘living lab’ approaches in the UK.

Furthermore, we are able to draw on the expertise and resources within the wider University, including the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences and the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences.

Together we are delivering research and public engagement initiatives that are truly helping to transform lives and our wider society.
