HOW CAN LHP SUPPORT MY RESEARCH?

The grants application team facilitates the grant application and costing process in close collaboration with LHP member organisations, NIHR Clinical Research Network North West Coast (CRN NWC), NIHR Research Design Service North West (RDS), NIHR Applied Research Collaboration North West Coast (ARC), Liverpool Clinical Trials Centre (LCTC) and Innovation Agency North West Coast (IA).

The team supports all research grant applications involving LHP partners related to health and social care. If you require support with your research grant application, please contact the grant application team by completing the form: LHP Grant Proposal and email this to: grants@lhpjro.nhs.uk copying in Gill.Rees@liverpoolft.nhs.uk

The completed proposal form should ideally be submitted to the team four to six weeks prior to the funder submission deadline but no later than four weeks.

The initial meeting with the investigator must occur no later than three weeks prior to the funder submission deadline.

OUR SERVICE

The grants application team offers coordination and expert advice on all steps for a clinical grant application from idea to submission.

The functions and activities which can be supported include:

  • Identification and alerts for member organisations about funding streams.
  • Support with the development of grants and identification of partners within remits of the funder’s T&C.
  • Development of NHS costings reflective of the study’s patient pathway.
  • Working with CRN NWC in the development and validation of SoECATs through to the approvals process of costings and the grant submission.
  • Input of grant information into the application forms including justification of costs and costings.
  • Delivery of expert advice and training to organisations’ in house teams and early stage researchers.
  • Ensuring delivery of KPIs through a central system for grant applications that is owned and understood by the partner organisations.

LHP NHS and HEI Partners

LHP operate a single shared governance and oversight approach to the grant development and submission processes across LHP HEI and NHS organisations. Contacting LHP Joint Research Office (JRO) will ensure your organisational R&D office is alerted to your intent to develop a grant.

Your employing Trust/HEI organisation and/or the LHP NHS Trust/HEI lead organisation need to be made aware of the submission at the earliest stages in order for them to complete their own assessments to ensure they are able to support the set-up and delivery of your research study.

By contacting LHP JRO via grants@lhpjro.nhs.uk our team will make the relevant contact to the LHP member organisation representative.

HOW TO ACCESS SUPPORT FOR YOUR GRANT APPLICATION

To request grant application support from LHP, all investigators must complete the Grant Application and Costing Request form below.

The completed form should be submitted to LHP JRO four to six weeks prior to the funder submission deadline. Stage 2 or full applications: six weeks’ notice is required. A member of our grants team will respond within three working days.

The initial meeting with the investigator must occur no later than three weeks prior to the funder submission deadline. It is important for all investigators to make themselves available to attend the initial meeting to facilitate the grant application. This time is required to ensure LHP are able to fully facilitate and support the grant application ready for NHS and HEI submissions and approvals.

The team is small and due to the high burden of grant applications that come through the office, we must be provided with enough time to be able to support and facilitate a grant application.

If sufficient time is not provided the application is at risk of not being supported for submission to the funder or fully approved by the lead NHS Trust.

LHP JRO CONTACTS

To discuss a forthcoming grant application, please contact grants@lhpjro.nhs.uk and the team will be happy to help and provide further information.
