A newly-established Executive Group for Liverpool Health Partners (LHP) met for the first time for their inaugural meeting, as part of a Governance refresh designed to build and develop the structure of the partnership.

Chaired by CEO of LHP, Louise Kenny, the meeting was represented by decision makers across the partnership in research and innovation, as well as other key stakeholders, to steer decisions and strategy for the system.

The group, which included representatives from LHP partners, as well as the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Health Innovation Network North West Coast, Liverpool City Council and the NHS Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care Board (ICB), met for the first time at Hope Street Hotel to discuss how the partnership can provide stronger, more visible leadership for health research and innovation across Liverpool, with a clear focus on improving outcomes for the people and communities it serves.

Central to this ambition is the establishing LHP as a single point of access for external organisations, creating a more coordinated route into the city’s research, clinical and innovation expertise. By bringing partners together around shared opportunities, LHP will be better placed to attract investment, secure research activity and ensure that these opportunities translate into benefits for local people.

The discussion also focused on how the partnership can increase access to clinical trials, research and innovative treatments, whilst ensuring that community priorities help shape future activity. Members agreed that success will be reflected not simply in the volume of opportunities secured, but in the contribution they make to improving health outcomes, widening participation in research and addressing the needs of communities across the Liverpool City Region.

The group plans to meet regularly and will sit under the LHP Board.
