Liverpool Health Partners (LHP) led a coordinated Liverpool City Region delegation to HLTH Europe 2026, showcasing a connected health and life sciences ecosystem that is accelerating research, innovation and implementation to improve health, attract investment and drive inclusive economic growth.
Bringing together leaders from across the NHS, universities, local government, innovation organisations and industry, the delegation demonstrated how Liverpool’s partnership approach is enabling new ideas to move more quickly from discovery into clinical practice and community benefit.
Representatives from University Hospitals of Liverpool Group, the University of Liverpool, Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, Civic Health Innovation Labs, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Health Innovation North West Coast joined Liverpool Health Partners in Amsterdam to present a unified proposition for Liverpool, highlighting the city region’s distinctive strengths in translational research, clinical research delivery, women’s health innovation, digital health, health technologies, data and AI and innovation adoption.
The Liverpool City Region delegation was proud to once again partner with the Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA) at HLTH Europe, reflecting the strong relationship between the two organisations and their shared ambition to champion the North of England on the global stage. Together, they showcased the North as a globally competitive destination for health and life sciences, while demonstrating how Liverpool’s integrated partnership model is enabling research, innovation and implementation to happen at pace.
By presenting a single, coordinated offer, Liverpool demonstrated how an integrated health and life sciences ecosystem creates the conditions for research, innovation and implementation to happen at pace. For industry, investors and research partners, this provides a clear route into the city region, reducing complexity, accelerating collaboration and supporting the delivery of research and innovation at scale.

Liverpool’s leadership was well represented throughout the conference programme. Professor Louise Kenny, Chief Executive of Liverpool Health Partners and Chair of the Northern Health Science Alliance, delivered a keynote showcasing Liverpool’s emerging health and life sciences infrastructure, highlighting the city region’s leadership in women’s health innovation, digital health and health technologies, alongside its ambition to create a globally connected ecosystem for research, innovation and implementation. In her role as Chair of the Northern Health Science Alliance, she also led the Alliance’s flagship Northern Lights, Brighter Health partner session, bringing together leaders from across the North to showcase the region’s collective strengths on the international stage. Professor Terry Jones, Executive Director for Research and Impact at Liverpool Health Partners and Director of Research and Innovation at University Hospitals of Liverpool Group, joined the session to discuss how integrated research, innovation and commercialisation can support delivery of the Government’s 10 Year Health Plan.
Throughout the conference, the delegation met with international healthcare organisations, life sciences companies, investors and research partners to explore opportunities for collaboration, inward investment and strategic partnerships, further strengthening Liverpool’s growing reputation as an international destination for health and life sciences.

The relationships and opportunities established during HLTH Europe will now be taken forward through Liverpool Health Partners and its partners, strengthening international collaborations, attracting investment and supporting nationally significant research and innovation programmes that improve lives, grow the economy and reinforce Liverpool City Region’s position as one of the UK’s leading health and life sciences ecosystems.
