Join the giant red photograph and show your support for World Heart Day

Show your support for World Heart Day this year by joining a giant outdoor photograph.

The Liverpool Centre for Cardiovascular Science (LCCS) is inviting volunteers to Liverpool’s Sefton Park to raise awareness of how people can help themselves to be more heart healthy.

They want local people, families and communities to show their support by forming a huge heart made up of people wearing red. The event will be socially distanced and masks are optional.

One in five people in the Liverpool City Region die from cardiovascular disease (diseases of the heart and circulation) every year.

It is also a leading cause of disability in the region. Congenital heart disease is one of the most common types of birth defect, with around 37 babies a year diagnosed with a congenital heart defect in Liverpool.

World Heart Day takes place every year on 29th September and seeks to raise awareness of how people can help themselves to be more heart healthy.

This year, as well as the heart shaped picture, the LCCS will be organising a number of activities to help people do just that, including running online exercise classes and lighting up civic landmarks red.

If you would like to be part of the giant picture, please wear red T-shirts, jumpers, coats or anything else red and meet outside the Palm House in Sefton Park on 18th September at 2pm. Face masks are optional.

A spokeswoman for the LCCS said: “Please join us and help raise awareness of the importance of heart health and encourage local people to live longer, healthier and happier lives.”
