The Liverpool Health and Research Hub has arrived

The Liverpool Health and Research hub taking research out to our communities

This month, the Liverpool Health and Research hub, commissioned by the University Hospitals of Liverpool Group (UHLG), has taken to the road, delivering information and services to local communities.

The Hub is a purposed built health facility on wheels, featuring a waiting area, a treatment room and phlebotomy facilities.

So far, the hub has been to communities in Liverpool and Wirral, with the official launch happening in the new year.

The hub follows on the work that was started by the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network with their mobile research unit Kitty.

It was named after Kitty Wilkinson who was the pioneer of public health in Liverpool, dubbed saint of the slums for establishing the public wash house movement.

Kitty took research into communities on the north west coast, acting as a tool for research engagement among the public.

Jules West, Associate Director of Research at UHLG said: “After the success of the NIHR research bus, Kitty, we are excited to now have a hub based at the Trust for staff and partners to use.

“The hub will allow us to deliver health and research to the communities of Merseyside, giving as many people as possible access to our cutting-edge research.”
