Supporting our partners to facilitate the initiation of research studies

The Joint Research Office (JRO) at Liverpool Health Partners is dedicated to support our partners to facilitate the initiation of new research studies.

The team provides expert knowledge advice and support for grant applications, sponsorship, and contracts.

Data from all activity across partners is captured and analysed by our business intelligence team who provide the evidence for a compelling narrative for promotion of the city of Liverpool.

The Functions of the Joint Research Office

  1. Research Grants – The JRO grants team can guide investigators through the process, convening partners and collaborators, ensuring all costs are accurately calculated, approved and submitted.
  2. Research Sponsorship – The JRO convenes the sponsorship committee to review, approve or decline sponsorship for new studies taking place across our partner organisations.
  3. Contracts – The JRO provides legal advice and support to our partner organisations for setting up contracts and legal agreements with external investigators, industry and for collaboration across academic and NHS partners.
  4. Business Intelligence – responsible for our digital first research management approach and performance data, dashboard and analytics. See more below.

The structure brings support from across a multidisciplinary team to work together on finalising contracts, costings, and working with the relevant NHS Departments to confirm capacity and capability to undertaken individual research studies.

Business Intelligence

The JRO acts as the conduit to create a strong narrative for the promotion of the city of Liverpool in the field of clinical research and innovation. It is essential to have the data that supports and acts as the evidence that demonstrates the value that the city has to offer.

This evidence is collated through the data captured by the JRO team via EDGE, our information system. All partners who work with the JRO are asked to register any new study via EDGE; this will provide us with the life cycle of a study, from idea to delivery. The team at the JRO ensure all data fields are complete and accurate, and report these to the LHP Board.

They are also responsible for the maintenance of the Dashboard shared with our partners.

The BI team also ensure that all templates, registration forms and any other documents are validated and updated as required. They are the keepers for the document repository, including working instructions for the different processes.

The BI Team will ensure new study registrations are captured onto EDGE; partners can email the team with the request for new study registration by including the IRAS form and the study protocol to Registration@lhpjro.nhs.uk
