New Chair for Liverpool Health Partners Board

Liverpool Health Partners (LHP) is delighted to announce the appointment of Professor Tim Jones as Board Chair.

Tim, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Liverpool, officially took up his post this month, chairing the October Board Meeting.

He said: “I’m delighted to be chairing Liverpool Health Partners Board which brings together clinical and academic expertise across Cheshire and Merseyside for the benefit of our communities.

“It is clear that we have significant work to do to tackle the health inequalities facing our region and I know that together we will continue to make progress in improving health outcomes and economic productivity.”

Tim took up post as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Liverpool on 1 January 2023. He moved from the University of Birmingham, where he was Provost and Vice-Principal from 2016. Previously, he held several senior leadership positions at the University of Warwick, including Interim Provost, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Science, Engineering and Medicine, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, Knowledge Transfer and Business Engagement.

He brings a wealth of experience in successful partnership working to the role and we have already seen how, under his chairmanship, we can harness the clinical and academic strengths of the Liverpool City Region to deliver on our vision for LHP.” 

Tim is an alumnus of the University of Liverpool, having gained both his undergraduate degree and PhD at Liverpool. After spending nearly 17 years at Imperial College London, during which he took on several academic leadership roles, he moved to the Chemistry Department at Warwick as part of the University’s strategic investment in advanced materials research. Tim’s research interests are focused on the surface and thin film properties of a wide variety of advanced electronic materials, with applications in areas such as photovoltaics.

In addition to his role as Chair of the LHP Bord, Tim is a member of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Business & Enterprise Board, the N8 Research Partnership, Liverpool Knowledge Quarter Board and Sciontec Board as well as a Director of the Russell Group and member of Universities UK.

Tim has previously undertaken several external roles connected with the research and innovation agenda, including being a Board member of organisations such as the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC), the Welsh Science and Innovation Advisory Council, and the Alan Turing Institute. He has also been involved in several international reviews of research, including as Chair for the Academy of Finland’s Research Profiling funding scheme.

Liverpool Health Partners is the academic health science system for the Liverpool City Region. It is made up of seven NHS Trusts and three Higher Education Institutes.
