Why early action is essential in Sepsis cases

The PRONTO Trial, which is looking at optimising antibiotic use for sepsis, has developed an animation to summarise its aims.

The University of Liverpool and Centre for Trial Research at Cardiff University are working together on a trial concerning the identification and sepsis and optimal use of antibiotics, known as PRONTO (PROcalcitonin and NEWS2 evaluation for Timely identification of sepsis and Optimal use of antibiotics in the Emergency Department).

Sepsis progresses rapidly and early recognition and treatment is essential. In July, PRONTO recruited its 1000th participant to the trial.

This the minute animation provides a helpful overview of the reasons for PRONTO and how the trial is testing a testing a specific indicator of bacterial infection (procalcitonin) to guide the most effective response and reduce unnecessary use of antibiotics.
